𝐋𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐎 is Metropoliten’s contemporary, born in 2006, so we decided to dedicate our #𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 post to it — playing with recommendations: who, when, how, where… should wear a particular Le Labo scent. Wearing Le Labo can be a challenge!
The brand claims that a good perfume must carry a dose of irony, provoke a “shock of the new, combined with something intimately familiar” — as stated in its Manifesto — and it has stayed true to this belief for 19 years. Be prepared that fragrances named after their main ingredient and the total number of aromatic components (Bergamote 22) will deliver anything but the expected and the conventional.
In the brand’s cult fragrance, Santal 33, sandalwood is sharp, musky, warm, and sweaty — far removed from the soft, polished, cocooning woody tones this ingredient usually has in most perfumes. Le Labo takes you out of your comfort zone, straight into the unknown.
“We believe you are only young once, but you can stay immature forever,” says LE LABO — so let’s see which souls the brand’s fragrances might attract.
Le Labo Ambrette 9: Head in the Clouds
Gentle but not overly sweet, fresh yet fluffy, Ambrette is for those who secretly watch film adaptations of Jane Austen novels, where Keira Knightley ends up on an English meadow in Mr. Darcy’s arms.
A happy ending — how could anyone resist?
Le Labo Another 13: Let’s Talk About Sex Like Adults
“An addictive, dirty potion” — that’s Another 13, packed with ambroxide molecules, a synthetic musk enriched with jasmine and moss. Like a magnet, it draws one skin toward another, pulling them into close contact.
Not for those under… 18?
Le Labo Baie 19: I Smell Like Verses About Summer Rain
An enigmatic, intellectual, charismatic personality who doesn’t speak much, but knows a lot. Baie is water and ozone, the scent of wet grass, the fleeting yet unforgettable smell of rain on a scorching summer day.
She smells like herself — and something more.
Le Labo Bergamote 22: You Shine, Baby
Originally named “Fire Cologne,” Bergamote 22 features vetiver for a touch of masculinity — or determination — amber and musk for seduction, and bitter citrus notes for an enigmatic glow.
What more do you need to be someone?
Le Labo Santal 33: We Don’t Waste Words — I’m Right
The cult Santal 33, a true niche icon, is adored or despised, irresistible or unbearable — you either love it or hate it. Just like the person who wears it.
Confidence, with (a certain amount of) justification.
Le Labo Thé Matcha 26: I Blush When Complimented
Introverted creatives, lovers of justice, dreamers, the absent-minded — where are you? Those who know more than they show, who understand more than anyone realizes?
You have to come close to understand me (and to smell me).
