There are three golden rules for skincare during pregnancy
clean, holistic, and targeted. Whether it's facial or body care, we suggest the right solutions for the most common skin issues during pregnancy.
With all the changes the body undergoes during pregnancy, the skin faces many challenges: it becomes prone to stretch marks, melasma (hyperpigmentation), fluid retention, and leg cramps. Another challenge is choosing cosmetics that do not contain ingredients that are not recommended for use during pregnancy, whether they are proven to be harmful to the baby or controversial with insufficient evidence of harm—ingredients you will likely want to avoid.
When you eliminate these potentially harmful and undesirable ingredients, such as retinol, salicylic acid, formaldehyde, or phenylthiourea from hair dyes, you should look for pregnancy-safe alternatives. We offer safe solutions for the most common skin problems during pregnancy.
STRETCH MARKS AND CELLULITE – GENTLE MASSAGE WITH SLOE OIL
Due to the strong stretching of the skin on the stomach, hips, and breasts, the skin becomes particularly prone to stretch marks. To strengthen elasticity and stimulate circulation, opt for gentle, superficial massages with selected herbal oils.
We recommend the precious Dr. Hauschka Sloe Oil with extracts of sloe, birch leaves, which enhance skin functions, St. John's Wort, and jojoba oil. Medicinal plants are soaked in organic sunflower oil and then undergo a rhythmic process for a week. The mixture is heated to 37°C (the human body temperature) and carefully stirred in the morning and evening. This way, the full power of the medicinal plants transfers into the oil.
LEG CRAMPS AND FLUID RETENTION
Mineral-rich skincare can help!
We recommend the Susanne Kaufmann Mineral Body Lotion, rich in mineral salts, especially magnesium phosphate and sodium phosphate, known as Schüssler salts, which help release muscle tension, restore the skin's pH balance, activate lymphatic flow, and promote hydration levels.
This lotion is intended for full-body care, not just legs, and also contains valuable centella, which protects the skin barrier. We recommend daily use of this precious lotion.
HYPERPIGMENTATION – PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
Vitamin C in skincare is a good and safe choice for preventing hyperpigmentation and spots during pregnancy – along with sun protection. We recommend the Susanne Kaufmann Vitamin C Serum, with a concentrated derivative of vitamin C – 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid. The skin becomes brighter, more radiant, and collagen production is stimulated for better tone.
SUN PROTECTION – MINERAL FILTERS
For sun protection during pregnancy, as well as for children, mineral filters are recommended instead of chemical filters. The problem with mineral filters is that they often have a heavy texture and leave a white residue on the skin. We found sun protection with mineral filters that has a light texture, provides excellent protection, and is suitable for sensitive skin.
Malin+Goetz SPF 30 – sun protection with a light gel texture, enriched with mineral filters and ingredients to brighten the skin. The innovative MicroSperse® technology provides broad-spectrum protection, without nanotechnology and without the white residue left by filters on the skin.
ALUMINUM-FREE DEODORANT THAT WORKS
Aluminum-free deodorants – this phrase is actually a pleonasm, as aluminum is found in antiperspirants, not deodorants. However, we all know what we mean: we don't want aluminum salts in our skincare during pregnancy, but we still want effective protection from unpleasant odors caused by sweating.
We have the solution Malin+Goetz Bergamot-scented stick deodorant, free from aluminum and alcohol, that doesn’t leave stains on clothes, doesn’t interfere with the skin's natural processes, and doesn’t affect pore closure. The prebiotic enzyme saccharomyces ferment filtrate, obtained through plant fermentation, neutralizes bacteria that cause unpleasant odors, while corn starch absorbs excess moisture.
