FRAGRANCE WORKSHOP: WHERE DOES THIS SCENT TAKE YOU?
Luxury, sophistication, and perfectionism – three words that unite automobiles, wine, and perfumes into a symphony of hedonism.
"Discover Luxury" – under this name, British Motors in Serbia presented the new Range Rover models on the last day of summer. After a dynamic drive from Belgrade to the Šapat Winery, guests enjoyed a wine tasting and an interactive niche perfume workshop organized by Metropoliten Perfumery.
The workshop, led by Filip Sovrlić, our training manager, focused on three key themes:
1. Niche VS Mainstream - The first topic was the difference between niche and mainstream perfumes, introducing the niche perfume movement, its history, and philosophy.
2. Layering - The second theme, layering, introduced guests to the art of applying fragrances in layers. Guests chose a base scent and then built on it with other perfumes, learning how different fragrance groups blend and what effects can be achieved through their combination. They were able to test everything on their skin using selected perfumes from the Metropoliten range.
3. A Scented Adventure with Screeching Tires - The third topic connected fragrance categories with the sensory experience of driving a luxury car. The link between automobiles and perfumes? A fortunate coincidence played a part: just before the event, Ex Nihilo’s new fragrance, Speed Legends, inspired by the famous Le Mans Classic race, arrived at our perfumery. Inspired by the adrenaline and thrill of speed, Ex Nihilo’s fragrance notes compete with one another – with blackcurrant and bergamot at the start, vetiver catching up at the first turn, tonka bean nearing the finish, and amber marking the end. Ex Nihilo’s perfumer created a scent that captures the essence of a car race.
Filip’s goal was to create an olfactory image of a luxurious, gleaming new car for his audience. That image became cinematic when the energy of movement was introduced through fragrance.
How did he achieve this? By carefully selecting the right perfumes.
- Glass was represented by fresh, clean scents of citrus, aquatic notes, and sea salt.
- The body of the car was painted with cool metallic accords and ozone.
- The luxurious interior was brought to life with warm leather notes, tobacco, and wood.
- The engine and the car’s movement were depicted with scents of gasoline, tar, and oil.
- Finally, the tires screeched to life with bold notes of rubber and smoke.
The imaginary scenes created by the perception of scent, and the associations our memory ties to them, are different for each of us. Every guest left the Metropoliten fragrance workshop with a unique impression and a new experience of how perfume can tell a story. We believe they’ll recall this story each time they sit behind the wheel of their car.
