Clive Christian Matsukita
The original Matsukita perfume was created in 1892 by The Crown Perfumery Company, whose legacy was later revived by the Clive Christian brand.
Matsukita was one of the house’s most iconic creations, inspired by a Japanese princess who captivated the Victorian court with her elegance.
Today’s reinterpretation—a woody chypre composition—preserves the mysterious grace of the original while adapting it for the modern audience.
Green bergamot, pink pepper, and nutmeg provide an energetic, fresh opening, leading into floral and smoky notes of Imperial Chinese jasmine and mate tea.
A touch of jasmine sambac and guaiac wood adds warmth and depth, enriched with pine resin.
Musk rustles softly over a warm, golden amber base.
Matsukita is a mysterious and complex fragrance, part of the “Crown” collection, which revisits and redefines the perfumes of The Crown Perfumery Company, founded in 1872 in London and discontinued in 1930.
Queen Victoria, enchanted by the brand’s perfumes, granted the house permission to model their bottle stoppers in the shape of her crown.
The house created around 150 perfumes, many of which gained global acclaim.
This prestigious legacy was taken over by British designer Clive Christian in 1999, who built his brand upon it—preserving its values of complexity, the finest ingredients, and high concentrations.
Clive Christian perfumes are inspired by the best of British perfumery traditions, continuing the legacy of the royal perfume house The Crown Perfumery from the 19th century.
Notes: Bergamot, oakmoss, and mate tea.
