Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad
A gemstone market somewhere in India comes alive around four in the afternoon. Shop windows blaze in the sun, and merchants energetically praise colorful textiles, amulets, and precious stones in countless hues. Everything shimmers in tones of gold, silver, amethyst, sapphire, and jade. Visitors and potential buyers refresh themselves with rose and hibiscus tea, spiced with cinnamon, mint, and vanilla. This is the inspiring atmosphere behind a perfume.
The name Mahajád is a neologism formed from the word “Maha” (meaning “noble” in Sanskrit) and the word “jade.”
HIBISCUS MAHAJÁD opens with a fruity, fresh accent of blackcurrant, whose radiant tone is enhanced by spearmint and wrapped in powdery notes of cinnamon.
At the heart of the fragrance lies an absolute of Damask rose, renowned for its floral-fruity nuances. The floral tone is amplified by the synthetic floral molecule nympheal, while leather adds a soft, dark dimension to the composition.
The base notes are built around hibiscus seeds (ambrette seed) to extend the powdery-sweet facet of cinnamon, enriched with a complex of Ambrofix™, benzoin resin, and vanilla for a sensual, lingering finish.
The perfumer chosen for this creation is Quentin Bisch, the author of several iconic fragrances. In 2020, Bisch was named Perfumer of the Year at Givaudan, one of the world’s largest producers of fragrance ingredients and perfumes for prestigious brands.
The perfume comes in a terracotta-colored glass bottle, packaged in a plastic-free box. Its concentration is exceptionally high—over 32%. The vegan fragrance extracts, free of added colorants, are crafted from top-quality ingredients bearing the Orpur® certification, which Givaudan reserves exclusively for its finest and most renowned perfumery raw materials.
