Respecting the skin's natural rhythm while stimulating its physiological functions, along with unique care rituals, distinguishes Dr. Hauschka cosmetics from other natural brands.
Dr. Rudolf Hauschka, a chemist, developed a method for producing natural remedies without alcohol as a preservative and founded the WALA company in 1935, first in Germany and later in Vienna and London.
Considering a natural skincare line to preserve the skin's health, he sought help from Viennese cosmetician Elisabeth Sigmund, for whom WALA had already been producing cosmetics that she had developed herself. This collaboration resulted in solutions for cream bases, stable without chemically synthesized emulsifiers.
Of course, we felt like rebels while developing this unconventional cosmetic line, Elisabeth later recalled.
The first products were launched in 1967.
A leader in natural and organic skincare, the brand continues to create products made from plants sourced from organic and biodynamic cultivation. It uses only natural preservatives – essential oils, waxes, plant alcohol, and propolis.
Following the skin’s natural rhythms, the brand applies unique holistic care rituals, with the most well-known being the oil-free night care or the care oil for oily skin. Even today, Dr. Hauschka cosmetics operate in line with the pioneering spirit of its founding time.
