New York Brand That Pushes Boundaries
Le Labo was born in Grasse, the perfume capital of the world in the south of France. It grew up in New York, where it opened its first “open perfume laboratory,” a boutique on Elizabeth Street in Nolita, in February 2006.
New Yorkers Fabrice Penot and Eddie Roschi wanted to inject a new level of creativity into contemporary perfumery, highly valuing artisanal, handcrafted work and the ideas behind each fragrance.
All perfumes are named after the key scent note and the total number of fragrance ingredients in the formula.
For instance, the iconic “Santal 33” features sandalwood as the main note, plus 32 other fragrance notes. The connotations and associations of the perfumes are left to the emotions and interpretations of those who wear them.
The Le Labo collection consists of 16 unisex perfumes.
The brand has always been known for its final touch: bottling and labeling the perfume in the lab in front of the customer. Today, Le Labo has allowed some retail locations, including Metropoliten, to receive pre-filled bottles. To ensure freshness, the final production is done in small batches, just before delivery. Customers will also be able to personalize the perfume label with their text or name.
